GEO 100 Introduction to Geology Credits: 3
This course introduces the fundamental principles of geology and Earth systems. Students examine Earth materials, including minerals and rocks, and explore the processes that shape Earth''''s surface such as plate tectonics, volcanism, weathering, erosion, and metamorphism. The course also covers geologic time, Earth history, and crustal deformation, including faults and earthquakes. In addition, students study global climate change, focusing on evidence for past and present climate change and the role of human activities in altering Earth''''s climate system. Emphasis is placed on understanding Earth as an integrated system and interpreting geologic and climate processes using evidence from the rock record and modern observations.
